Removing, Rebasing & Extending a 600 sq ft Driveway in Pinellas Park
Project overview
The old driveway at this Pinellas Park home had broken apart. Near the street, the surface had cracked into loose chunks, and the rest of the drive back toward the house was worn and patchy. A large tree stands right beside the driveway. The homeowner also wanted more room, so the plan was to replace the driveway and make it bigger at the same time.
A surface that has broken up like this can’t be sealed or overlaid. The old material has to come out, and the new driveway has to start from a fresh base.
Extending a driveway is the easiest to do when the old one is already coming out, since the new base and asphalt go down as one job.
How the job went
- RemoveThe broken driveway was taken out down to the ground.
- BaseNew base was put down and shaped across the full footprint, including the added area for the extension.
- PaveNew asphalt went down over the base, running from the concrete apron at the street back to the house, for 600 square feet of finished driveway.
What this project demonstrates
When a driveway has failed, replacing it is also the right time to rethink its size. Extending it during the rebuild costs far less than coming back later, because the removal, the base work, and the paving all happen in one visit. The result here is a wider, smoother driveway on a solid new base.
